Year 1: We go to Memphis to see my grandparents for Christmas this year. It was a lot of fun. We had Christmas with Colin’s family the week before. No one seem upset about it. My whole family went to Memphis. It was a great time.
Year 2: Pet
Colin and I decided we needed a pet. We fell in love with a small parrot named Job. Job is a great joy to us.
Year 3: Unexpected baby – River Carlos Van Buren
This year we had a huge shocker. I don’t know how but I didn’t know I was pregnant. On August 12 I had horrible stomach pains and I didn’t know why. Soon we discovered a shocking realization. I was in labor. I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy there at home with only me and Colin. It was terrifying but luckily our son was healthy and we all were okay. We were so happy for out little surprise. We named our son River Carlos. The name means water warrior.
Year 4: Birth – Aiden Stone Van Buren
We didn’t plan on another baby so soon after River but God had other plans for us. On October 8 we welcomed another baby boy. We had a natural birth and everything went as planned. Aiden Stone Van Buren has received many wet kisses from big brother River. His name means fire stone.
Year 5: Second Honeymoon
Our parent’s treated us to a second honeymoon. They thought we needed one with 2 children under 2. They took turns watching the boys for 6 days while we vacationed in Hawaii. It was lovely but I missed my boys.
Year 6: Job
I’ve been put in charge of the elderly care facility at our hospital. It has great pay and is a great job. I love it.
Year 7: Pet
The boys really wanted a pet and after meeting their cousin’s rabbit they decided they wanted one too. We got a rabbit and the boys named her Flops.
Year 8: Family Affair – Liam Alexander Maguire Van Buren and Benjamin Chase Maguire Van Buren
This year my cousin passed away from leukemia. She was a single mother and she left us custody of her 2 sons. Liam Alexander is 4 years old. He has been having a hard time. He calls for his mama a lot and has nightmares every night. It is going to be an adjustment, but we won’t ever let him forget his mother. Benjamin Chase is 9 years old. He has grown up faster than he should have in the past few years and knew that this was coming. He is trying to be grown up for Liam. River is adjusting quite well and “helps” with Liam. Aiden is 4 just like Liam and he his thrilled to have a brother his age. He thinks he has a twin.
Year 9: Adoption – Kalliyan Jorani Van Buren and Dara Sangha Van Buren
Colin went on a mission trip to Cambodia with our church and met a 2 year old boy and girl; twins. They were in an orphanage and had a traumatizing life already. When he came home he couldn’t stop talking about these children and one day he said I think we should adopt them. I had started to love these children too even though I never met them, but Colin loved them so much. We traveled to Cambodia so I could meet the children and it was an instant bond. We had to have them. The girl is named Kalliyan Jorani (KallEE-yan Jor-ahn-ee). The boy is named Dara Sangha (dare-EE-uh sayng-huh).
Year 10: Adoption – Hai Ming Van Buren
We loved adoption so much that we decided to do it again; this time from China. We adopted a 5 year old boy named Hai Ming (Hey Mee-ng).
Year 11: Adoption – Mei Li Van Buren and Lin Wei Van Buren
We continued adopting. We adopted from China again. This time we adopted identical twin girls. They are named Mei Li (May Lee) and Lin Wei (Lyn Way). They are 6 months old.
Year 12: Holiday Vacation
This Christmas we went to Memphis to see my grandparents again. They loved seeing the kids.
Year 13: Adoption – Tai Su Van Buren and An Jia Van Buren
We adopted another set of identical twin girls from China. These girls are older. They are 14 years old. They are named Tai Su (Ty Sue) and An Jia (Anne Gia).
Year 14: Adoption – Alexei Demyan Van Buren and Anya Nonna Van Buren
This year we adopted from Russia. We adopted twins again, a boy and a girl. The boy is named Alexei Demyan (Uh-lex-EE demi-anne) and the girl is Anya Nonna (ahn-yuh no-nuh). They are 10.
Year 15: Birth – Winter Tess Van Buren
This year we finally completed our family. This year I gave birth to our third biological child and our first biological daughter. She was born 6 weeks early. On December 1st. We named her Winter Tess.
