[Opinions] Maverick & Amelie?
WDTYO Maverick? Is it too trendy, or is it useable? And about Amélie (I know Amelia has been common the board as of late), is it useable in the US with the French pronunciation?

I think Maverick is usable, not that I like it personally. I think it would be better as a mn though.Amelie is also usable and I love the name, it's so pretty. I think it could work in the US, why not I say!?

Eh, I've never cared for Maverick personally. I had an older cousin who used to make us watch Top Gun every time he babysat us, the name will always have that association for me. Side note; I have seen this name used once before...on a girl. I remember thinking it was absolutely awful.
I love the name Amelie. I used to be "eh" about it until I saw the movie. It's just so adorable I couldn't help fall in love with it (that and Amandine, which is only mentioned in the beginning, but still lovely) Out of curiosity, what are you using as the French pronunciation? I've always thought it was ah-MAH-lee, which is basically how it is in the movie too...just with a French accent.

The movie is the exact reason why I started to love it too! And I'd be pronouncing it the same as you, except the "mah" being a bit more or a "may"

I think Maverick is a silly name. That opinion was solidified last night when I was at a hardware store with my boyfriend and we saw a toilet model named Maverick. I love Amélie, but I have to wonder if the general American public would pronounce it in that manner. I think it is usable.

Not sure about Maverick.I love Amelie! It's in the top 100 in Australia though, so too popular for my taste.

I think Amelie is usable in the US.As for Maverick, I can't quite make up my mind about him. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. Definitely usable and it doesn't strike me as particularly trendy.

Amelie is usable in the US, and I love the name. Maverick is a cowboy name to me, so I wouldn't use it. I definitely don't think these two names would work as a sibset, although I don't think you were asking about that.
