[Opinions] Isolde
What do you think of Isolde? I saw the movie Tristan and Isolde last night, and it got me wondering about this name? I don't like Tristan though.. in theory it's a nice name, but it's tacky to me for the present. So anyway, Isolde?Caroline :-)

I really like Isolde. It looks pretty and I think it sounds pretty. I also know a very sweet girl named Isolde who really personifies the name for me."Bob Loblaw's law blog."

I think Isolde is a real grower. My first reaction is always "Yuck." I instinctively dislike the sound because it's so unfamiliar. No other names (or words I can think of) have that strange "oll-duh" sound. But now that I've said it a few times in my head, I'm getting used to it. I'd spell it Isolda,, which is so much easier to pronounce.I also think Iseult (when ih-ZOOLT) would sound great as a middle name, since it's stressed on the second syllable. And I love the look of Eseld, though I don't know how to say it._____________________________________________________________________Elinor"I couldn't imagine somebody like Osama bin Laden understanding the joy of Hanukkah."

I've never liked it. It's nothing personally against the name, just something about the sound that puts me off.

Sounds harsh to me.

I've been seeing this name around the boards a lot lately. I like the way it looks but I'm not sure I like how it sounds. I think I have to get used to it a little more.:)

I don't know how to pronounce this name so I'm just going to assume that it is like "I Sold" which sounds absolutely horrible. Add a middle name to that like Isolde Jane, it automatically comes out to "I Sold Jane". I might be pronouncing this wrong but at first glance that is what it comes out to...Remember CEDRIC DIGGORY: The REAL Hogwarts ChampionImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

I clicked on the name Isolde and it ruined the ending of the movie for me! lol...I like Tristan because it is old but works well in modern times. Isolde is just..old.

It sounds pretty but I don't think I would name my kid that. Ned Flat: Why are you acting like this?
Yakko: We're not acting. We really are like this.

Dracula: I am Count Dracula!
Yakko: Didn't you use to teach math on Sesame Street?

Yakko: Well it's that time again!

I'm loving the name Isolde right now! It was watching the trailer for that movie that really made the name Isolde seem pretty to me. I love the way they pronounce it in the movie EE-zold instead of like BtN say: i-ZOL-de (English), i-SOL-de (English), ee-ZAHL-du (German)Tristan is one of my favorite names right now but I don't think I could really use either Tristan or Isolde on my child, not yet. The reason: there are so many other great names out there that I really want to use! But I wouldn't mind using Isolde on a dear pet or for a story character. :)

I adore the name Isolde. I have a thing for "I" girl names, and this one adds Celtic mythology. A very enchanting name.

I say, "ih-ZOLE-da." But "izz-OLE-da" is so close it doesn't make a difference. That "e" on the end is pronounced.

Oh good, someone else who pronounces it like I do. :) I always thought this was the "correct" pronunciation, but after seeing the trailer for the movie (haven't seen the movie yet), I wasn't so sure. In the trailer it's pronounced ee-ZOLD, and many here at this site agreed on that pronunciation as well, but I prefer ih-ZOLE-dah (or something similar). But, I guess it is possible that all of these are correct -- they're pretty much all listed on this site as valid pronunciations of Isolde. :b

I looked at BTNAnd it didn't list it that way.
