Since I sang "Little ditty about Jack and Diane..." as soon as I saw your post title, I really think they are too Mellancamp to use together.
Of the two, I prefer John, nn Jack. If John is not an option, then I prefer Diana, but I really find it charmless and awkward compared to Diane. It's weird; I usually prefer variants that end in -a, but Diane is so smooth, strong, and svelte, I have to make an exception.
