Help[Opinions] Pandora and Delilah
What do you think of Pandora? I love the meaning but the associations with it aren't very fortunate. Same with Delilah which I love. Delilah seems to be getting quite common. Opinions? And if you had to choose one which would you prefer?

I like the pretty sound of the name Delilah, but I'm not in love with it. Aside from the hair-cutting story in the Bible, there is that dumb song about "Hey There Delilah" (also a not dumb song about "Why Why Why Delilah" by Tom Jones) and a truly obnoxious radio (personality" named Delilah who takes on-air calls from pathetic people and plays super-easy-listening music.
I don't like Pandora at all, it sounds stagey and overdone.

Overplayed to DEATH! I remember the summer it came out - I was on a trip with my sister, who loved the song (I thought it was okay). By the end of the week I was so sick of it.

Nobody needs to be monitoring anyone else's posts anyway, for optimism or niceness or anything else. It's not as if you were speaking negatively about a member. Also, it's helpful when people bring up negative associations, because they could make or break a name for someone.
I'm pretty pessimistic myself. However, I'm also sensitive, so I usually can make acceptable posts. Usually. ;)

A friend's sister a couple years ago was going to name her son Cash. She had a baby shower, and rather than play games, she wanted us all to decorate onesies. So we did, and most of us, without having planned it beforehand, put little dollar signs or piggy banks on our onesies, and one gal painted "Always Carry Cash" on hers. Well, the mom-to-be, kind of a pouty person in general, threw a hissy fit.
And a month later named her baby Daniel.

The onesies were pretty awful, I hope she didn't dress him in them. None of us at the party are much in the way of artistes; I tried to do one with frogs on it and my frogs looked like they'd gotten their genes scrambled in a toxic spill of some kind. lol

That's tame as far as I'm concerned. I like honesty. Katniss/Catpiss is so very obvious, anyway. If someone posted "WDYTO Latrine?" are they going to get all nice positive responses? 25 "nmsaa"s aren't very interesting, either.

I've only ever listened to the station that Delilah is associated with when it plays 24/7 Christmas music, but
I think I can say that she is, without a doubt, the absolute worst part of the holiday season.
I find her more grating than, like, I don't know. Alex Trebek. "Obnoxious" is almost too kind of a word.
I don't really have a point here except that I think your assessment of Delilah is pretty accurate. I guess also that the mere mention of that radio woman is enough to inspire a rage that is strong enough that I feel compelled to purposelessly lash out against her on the internet.

Well, the usual associations put me off of both but, trying to move that aside...
As much as I love Dora and the "dora" component of many names, Pandora still leaves me thinking of loaf pans and pan-dimensional beings masquerading as mice. So, Delilah it is, as I do enjoy the sounds and have no additional aversions.

I love both Pandora and Delilah. Neither of the associations bother me, but considering I live in a supremely conservative and religious town, I can already hear people going "What monster would name their child Delilah?" They even have a problem with Eve. -_-
As for Pandora, I was super excited last summer when I met a Pandora! She. was. awesome. And because of her, I warmed up to Dora. She was so bubbly and artsy! Anyway, I still love Delilah slightly more. It sounds very lyrical to me.

I nixed Ophelia off of my potential baby name list for the same reason. If I couldn't get past the negative association, how could I expect anyone else to?
I think Delilah has a lovely sound though, and I love the song, "Delilah" by the Cranberries... however it doesn't have a positive conotation for that name either. However, I think people would be really receptive to the way it sounds.

Pandora is super cool and has awesome nickname potential; I doubt its rare usage has much to do with bad associations with the myth, though, since Eve is representative of more or less the same thing and it sees plenty of use. It's altogether rather overpowering, though, definitely too over-the-top to be mainstream "usable". Someone daring could probably pull it off, and someone not-so-daring could easily go exclusively by the much more unassuming "Dora," but...I don't know. I wouldn't use it for real, but I would definitely choose to use it given the choice between it and Delilah. And I honestly don't think Delilah is an ugly awful terrible name or anything, it's just kind of vaguely pretty but sort of lacking in personality to me. I do, however, think that Delilah would probably be considered maybe a little offbeat but definitely mainstream usable, unlike Pandora, so I guess there's that.

I love Delilah, and I definitely prefer it over Pandora.
I don't think Pandora is useable, because of the greek mythology association, there's also the fact that the fantasy world in Avatar was called Pandora!
Aside from the association, I don't really like Pandora anyway it doesn't have such a nice sound in my opinion. Maybe it's the "dora" part which I find kind of dowdy sounding.

I love Pandora, but unfortunately, it seems a bit too pop culture due to Pandora radio and the movie "Avatar." The myth came first, though, so perhaps most people would think of "Pandora's Box" first. It's hard to say.
I also like Delilah, but I prefer Lila.
Between the two names, I prefer Pandora.
