What do you guys think about Ella? It's a new love of mine, but I can't quite figure out if I like it more as a given name or as a nickname for Eleanor.
In theory, I guess I like Eleanor nn Ella more, but I can't see myself using Eleanor (I hate how it sounds in Swedish) so Ella as a given name might be a better option.
Anyway, what do you think? Any other ideas as for which names Ella could be a nickname for? Except Stella, Isabella, Gabriella, Rosella.

I like Ella as a full name.

It's pretty, but so unsubstantial.
Some 19th century royal women used Ella as a nn for Elisabeth or Elizabeth. What about that?
Or (but this is stretching it a bit), as a nn for a double name with the initials LA?
Or Adelaide, Aella, Aelia, Eliane, Angela, Aniela, Annelise... Helene with a french pronunciation?

Nonononono not Ella as a full name! Arg. I don't like it, so if you need to use it, I vote it should be a nickname.
Nothing wrong with Eleanor, but if it's no good in Swedish...

Eleanor is lovely, and it works well in Swedish. It's just that I think Eleanor sounds incredible whiney in Swedish. Not to mention I find it childish and boring. Weird, since I think it's lovely and classic when pronounced in English. :)

I like Ella. It has warmth to it and I think it stands on its own well enough. A while back, I was playing with Nella, which I also like. Somehow it feels just a bit more substantial to me. Thought I'd mention it as it would get that "N" sound from Eleanor in there for you. :)

I personally think that any name with an "el" or "ell" in it can arguably have the nickname Ella.
I like Ella best as is, meaning, a full first name... but here are a few other options:

*As you can see, some are a bit of a stretch, but none are crazy strange for the nn Ella. There are tons more options, but I will leave you with those.
