Being a Lucy, I actually like my name. But I have to say it's rather uncommon where I live. It became a bit more popular over the years, but when I was born (28 years ago) it was very uncommon.

Any number of thoughts!

I'd always intended to name my daughter Lucy. Didn't mention it to anyone, of course! And when she was born, she looked totally unlike a Lucy. Don't ask me how she got it right at the age of not even a day, but she did. So, out with the name books. I tried every single name that I could consider, and she continued to lie there and not look like any of them, except Caroline. So Caroline she was, for four good years until she got viral pneumonia and died. Whereupon I was lucky enough to have a second daughter, and DH and DS both insisted that she had to have one of Caroline's names - not Caroline, though. So I tried hard to get them to agree to using Lucy as a mn, but once again they had other ideas. So, no Lucy for me. What a pity!

I should add that Lucy has never been megapopular where I live - I knew an Afrikaans Lucie who must surely have died of old age by now, and a friend of mine has a Lucy niece. And that's it. Which is odd, really; it's such a light, lively, softly shining name.

I just finished a book where one of the main characters is named Lucy. I adore the name. I find it slightly dated yet it still really appeals to me. It's quirky, classic and youthful yet not childish. Fave combos: Lucy Eleanor, Lucy Ellen, Lucy Marigold.

Lucy is sweet. It's very young to me though... Almost as if it's trapped in the world of the prepubescent. I had a friend Lucy in middle and high school and she still comes across as very young and almost childlike in nature at first meeting even though she is a mature and functional adult. It also makes me think of Lucy from the Narnia books. Not a bad name, just not one that feels sturdy to me.

To me it's sunshiny and plucky. I think that's because of a character association.

I LOVE Lucy! It's one of my absolute favourite names and has been for years. I find it cute, sweet and spunky for a little girl, but I also feel it ages well and works on all ages. Really, really, love this name.

ETA: I am a big fan of the show I Love Lucy and have been since I was a child, so that helps me to like the name more. I also love the character Lucy in the Narnia books, because she is the one with the most imagination and faith out of her siblings and I always liked that about her.

Lucy is okay. It is like the Standard Little Girl name in my mind. Her and Mary are in all the elementary school math word problems.

It's my mother-in-law's name. Her full name is Lucille.

I just don't like the loo sound, maybe. Lucia loo-SEE-a is alright, because at least the LOOSE part isn't stressed, but Lucy sounds brassy and ... not adult, to me.

I suspect it's one of those "names I hate but everyone else seems to love."
