[Opinions] Aled
What do you think of the name Aled? I like it on it's own but I'm also tossing around the idea of it as a possible nickname to Alexander. Thanks!

I have never come across this name before now, I like it. I think it easily works as a nn for Alexander. Actually it is so similar to Alec I originally thought that it may be an uncommon nn for Alexander.

It's okay; a very English-friendly Welsh name - maybe a little dated, I'd expect an Aled to be an adult.
It seems unintuitive as an nn for Alexander and an odd choice as it's an actual name, but the letters are in there, so no reason why not if you really wanted to.

It is a bit dated but I'm cool with that. It's not the most intuitive nickname for Alexander but it reminds me so much of Alec that I feel like it could slip in there. :)Thanks!

I actually think it's nice. But as a nn for Alexander...I don't know. Seems a little awkward.

It is a bit awkward, but it was just an idea. Thanks!

It seems Middle Eastern to me at first glance, I guess because of alef and because Al could be a prefix. It also reminds me of Alan.I think it's unexpected but not bad as a NN for Alexander.

I can see how it would appear Middle Eastern and I would agree. It reminds me of Alan as well, but that's a bit of a negative for me. :DThanks!

I think it's kind of awkward as a nickname for Alexander. But it sounds nice on its own I guess.

I prefer it on it's own. Alexander just happens to be one of my top boys names so I was just seeing if they worked together. Looks like it's a no. :)

Hi Piccadilly !!!I read in comments that it means "river" or "winding" in Welsh but the database says that the meaning is unknown..what is the truth? Aled is too close to Alec in my mind.
I like Alec so they are so similar that I can't see Aled without thinking of a mispelling. The obscure meaning (do you have more info?) makes it worse.

I have no idea what it means. I was just watching a show and a kid named Aled was on it. It really stood out to me. Sorry I couldn't be of any help!

To me, it just looks like a misspelled "ailed". Sorry.

Hm. Yeah, I could see that. Thanks! :)
