No it definitely won't be in the top 20 in 2017. I also doubt that it will make it into the top 20 for 2018 but it may in 2019 or 2020. I think that eventually it will either just barely make its way into the top 20 or it just barely won't. If it makes it into the top 20 I doubt it would ever get past #15 since its growth already appears to be slowing down. It will also partially depend on how many other names above it fall out of favor and how quickly they fall.I love the name Penelope but I dislike that it is getting close to being in the too popular range for me, I consider the too popular range to be .5% used for the year and above. I especially love the many great nn's that Penelope has and I've always liked this name because of the character named Penny from The Rescuers film.

It's a very sweet, friendly name. It's grown on me. It's got such nice nickname options too like Penny and Nell. I can definitely see it cracking the top 20 soon, if not 2017.

I really like Penelope in theory. It's currently on my name list for 'Eggbert', but so is about 500 other names. Penelope is probably one of those names that I like, but wouldn't use, and mainly because I like the English prn but not how it would be pronounced in Swedish. I really like Penny as well, and it's also the name of one of my bunnies and I sometimes call her Penny Penelope. And not to forget about Penelope Garcia, from Criminal minds!I think it will continue to rise in popularity and I hadn't realized how high up on the US charts it is. I think it will enter the top 20 either for 2017 or 2018.

I have strongly mixed feelings. My husband has a thing for mythological P-names, I think it would sound great as a sibset with Theodora, and I love the nicknames Penny and Nell.On the other hand, it sounds like somebody just heard the word "pineapple" for the first time and can't quite figure out the pronunciation, I don't love the cutesy and kind of gross "pee" ending, and it's far too popular for me. At that popularity level I'd REALLY have to love it to use it.I don't think it will crack the top 10, but I could see it creeping closer and finishing just outside it over the next few years. It's showing up in pop culture a lot.

I've encountered two little Penelopes in the last couple weeks, and the mythology trend is pretty strong, but it seems to be a smaller segment of the population wants to follow that trend? I don't see it in the top 20 yet, but it could be and I don't think it will ever be top 5, but I'm not super knowledgeable regarding trends and popularity.

I enjoy he gentle fricative consonance of the letter "p" which shapes the sonorities of the long & short "e" vowels which follow it.I hear the name Penelope like a single musical phrase - rather than a word segmented into specific syllables; the softly alternating consonants which ever so gently pronounce each following vowel just roll with sonority of the vowel with precedes it. Penny is a perfect nickname.(Most of this is taken from other posts I've used about this name)

It's fine. A classic name with a long history. On the downside I very much associate it with the Kardashians now. I've never even seen their show but their baby name choices always get lots of publicity. Not a huge fan of the sound, you've got that pee sound at the end which isn't attractive to me. Penny is also not really my style. It's fine overall but nothing more than that. Yes, I can totally see this in the top 20.

I used to associate this name with old ladies and platypuses (don't ask about the latter lol), but now that I've seen it on a child (the daughter of a vlogging family on YouTube), I'm starting to like it! Now I think of Penelope as modern and youthful.I think it'll probably keep climbing, and it doesn't have too far to go to his the top 20 (#27), but I like it that way. Popularity doesn't really bother me, so I like it when names I like are within the top, say, 200.

I go back and forth on it. Sometimes I think it’s really beautiful and nice and sometimes I think it sounds silly. Right now I like it. I’m not sure what will become of it.. I’ll echo what others have said, and say it’ll keep rising for a while but never hit top ten. I don’t think it’ll hit too 20 next year, 7 spots is a pretty big leap this high up the charts.

This name really brings me back, because it was one of my very favorite names when I first started posting on BtN. Now, I couldn't care less about it, and I actually dislike it, a little. The overall sound of it is unappealing.I can't predict anything about names, sorry. That has never been my forte.

Yes, I can see in entering the top 20 because how common it has been lately for celebrities and the fact that the name just seems like it would be a popular one, given the fact that people love common mythology names. I think it may turn out to be one of those common names that eventually becomes dated, due to the source of the names popularity.I personally prefer Parthenope due to the fact that it is also mythological and the meaning is slightly less weird then Penelope and also the fact that it has less of a trendy sound, but Penelope isn't a bad name at all. It was 27 last year, so it might become trendy.

Parthenope is a great name. Too bad it doesn't have as obvious nn choices as Penelope though.

I also like Parthenope!

I don’t like it at all. It’s trendy and the -pe ending just bothers me. There are much nicer Greek names out there, imo.Edit: yes, I think it will be in the top 20. Honestly I think it will eventually end up in the top 5. It’s generation Z’s version of Ashley, Jessica, Lauren, Stephanie, etc. Trendy and soon to be dated.

Not a fan, no matter how hard I try. I think it'll stay right around where it is now; so in my eyes it'll probably be a bit dated in 20-30 years.

Wow! I had no idea it was at #27 right now. I don’t see it entering the top 10 though.I love Penelope and I think the nn Penny is super sweet as well! It’s hard seeing a name you’ve liked for so long get so popular! The same is happening with Amara.

I'm the opposite; I kind of like it when names get popular. Maybe that's because I'm not naming an actual child, but a fanfic character.

Haha, yup in the same way, well for names I like or don't mind anyway. Names I'm not a fan of, love it when at least some of them decrease. :/

Top 10's??

I do not project it in the top 20 for 2017. My projected top 1000 is on my work computer and it's Sunday so I can't say where I have it, but it's not top 20 yet (In 2016, it was over 1,100 babies short of the top 20).There's a bit of a Greek myth trend going (see also: Atlas, Apollo, Orion, Calliope, Adonis, Achilles, Ariadne) so I can see it continuing going up and maybe hitting the top 20 in a couple years. I'm not sure I see it ever making the top 10 though.

Well who knows. I personally don't care where this name ends up ranked at. Curiosity just got to me. I don't see it making the top 10's either, not anytime soon at least.
