I don’t love it, but I certainly don’t hate it either. Growing up I’ve never minded it, although it’s quite out of use now. Maybe it’s time for a revival of this name?

I love it but would be afraid of her being called Sam, which I like only for a boy, so I wouldn't use it.

I respect that it's a classic and decent name. However, I am unable to truly admire it due to negative associations. Needless to say, I've never met one who was pleasant and one in paticular who I knew from high school, ooh boy...
Let's just say that she was the VERY definition of a mean girl. A very high maintence snob who thought she was supior to pretty much everyone around her. I wish that she didn't come to mind whenever the name sprang up that I could erase her from my mind but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. The negative impact of my experience is just too strong. Although I tolerate the name itself, I would be initially hesitant if I came across another one. /:

That's Laura for me. I knew a horrible one. People go on about how beautiful the name is and I want to throw up in my mouth.

I love it, but I'm biased. ;) I'm a Samantha who goes by my full name too. I don't use Sam or Sammy. One reason I love it is that I never have any spelling or pronunciation issues. I have those problems with my last name, so I've always been so thankful that my first name is so easy for others to say and spell.

Samantha was my birth name and I changed it because I absolutely loathed being called Sam or Sammy, which were unavoidable. So my perspective might be slightly biased. I don't think there is anything wrong with the name, I'd be surprised to meet one under 20 it seems very late 80's/90's to me. I don't like Sam for girls, you might be able to get away with Manny or Annie as a nickname.

Dated, but nice enough. I don't like Sam or Sammy.

I thoroughly dislike Sam, whatever name it's part of. So Samantha doesn't stand a chance. I don't like Amanda either, though Miranda is good and would be excellent but for the risk of Randy.
