[Opinions] Lurania
My mom is a big geneology buff and is writing a family history. Apparently my greatx4 grandmother was named Lurania (would have been 1830s-ish). It's not in the BtN database so I can't provide any information on it or how it was said but wondering what you all think.I would pronounce it luh-rahn-yah. It reminds me of Ourania, which is a favorite of mine, but maybe more usable. I think I'm actually kind of taken with it. It has a fairy tale quality to it.
My PNL = http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/37275Top: William and Eloise (main) / Sirius & Briseis (GP) / James & Charlotte (top25)
Bottom: Delsin and Triss (main) / Dinadan & Zephine (GP) / Corvo & Zella (top25)

Cool! I would have guessed loor-AY-nee-a, or loor-AH-nee-a. It feels astrological to me because it's like Luna and Ourania or Urania. The only thing I don't like is that the Lur- part makes me think "lurid". Also got me thinking of Lura (which is user-submitted as related to Lorelei?) and Nura / Nurania (Nura/Nur is light and so Nurania would mean 'heavenly light'?? if we're allowed to wantonly mix languages lol)
And also Lorania, which I almost like better even though it has no moon connection. Like space lore or something.

Its ok, but I love the family connection and in that, it would be lovely to use

Oh it does sound very pretty, I think I like it more than Ourania actually. Probably because it sounds more complete. It also seems oddly familiar, maybe because it reminds me of my favorite bug pokemon, Lurantis (lol).

Ooh! I like it! I agree that it does have a fairy tale quality with it, and would probably still be usable. It sounds gorgeous.

When I first saw the name I thought of Laurana, which is a name from the Dragonlance fantasy series that came out in the 80s. That looks mainly like an elaboration of Laura, which is obviously not the etymology for Lurania but the names are similar.I agree it seems to similar to Ourania / Urania to be a coincidence; but also seems similar to Luriana (submitted to the database). There's also Lurline to consider.
