[Opinions] Camille
So, my middle name is Camille. It's pronounced (closer to) the French way, depending on person, closer to ka-meeye, or ka-mee with a bit of an idea of an y/l sound, than Camilla, depending on the person, but strangers still go for Camille with a hard l. It's an honouring name, and the original bearer was definitely more of a said-a-bit-like"ka-meeye" than a said-like-"ka-meel". I've always liked it a bit more than my fn, although it takes a bit of explaining, and would want to pass it on if I ever had a daughter. Really, I think it'd be a middle name or second middle name, as it's part of my own name it feels a bit egotistical and uninspired as a first name. I also don't always love the English "ka-meel" pronunciation, it's not awful, actually, if it weren't my name it'd be fine, and I don't object too much as it's not part of my name I use a lot, but it's also not...right, and it is jarring when it's not how you hear the name in your head... so I'd prefer to avoid that as much by using it as a mn like with my name. At least then it's not a torrent of corrections. But I do worry about Camille being a boring filler middle name. What do you think? What would you pair Camille with? FN or MN? What combos stand out? How do you find Camille? What variants do you like? I'm kind of thinking of Carmel as a version of the English way of saying Camille, where it's kinda... a reflection of Camille? But not Camille. Could that work?Based on some of my feminine names I like at the moment, do you like:Electra Camille
Eva Camille
Francesca Camille
Nadezhda Camille
Nadia Camille
Ramona Camille
Rowena Camille
Rosalind Camille
Saskia Camille (too contrasting imho)
Wilhelmina Camille (too much m)
Zenobia Camille
Zipporah CamilleIf I'm honest, I'm at a bit of a loss... I get how my parents ended up with my name, because Camille is quite hard for me to make a combo with actually.

Nadia Camille and Ramona Camille are great. You can improve the L problem by adding an L name after. From your list:Nadia Camille Letizia
Nadia Camille Ludovica
Ramona Camille Lucrezia
Ramona Camille Lizandra (I don’t know if you like it, but Lysander is there)

Not boring, unique. Electra, Eva, Francesca, Rosalind, Zipporah work best with Camille

I'm taken with Zipporah Camille. Definitely use it. It's not filler at all. And I would not worry a bit about naming a child after yourself. We pass down the father's name all the time. Turn about is fair play.

Thank you :) I don't know why I have such a neurosis about using Camille when it's a name I inherited from someone else, and like you said male names get passed through the generations all the time. My own dad has a variation of his dad's name, which is a language-parallel / translation of his dad's name, which... And when I think of that, I do wonder why I feel silly about using Camille. I've always liked it way more than my actual first name and wanted to use it for any future daughter, so I do need to get over that.
I've always sort of loved Zipporah, I just find it pretty, interesting, lively, still with a strong identity, so I'm so glad you like Zipporah Camille, if and when I have a daughter, it's well within the realms of possibility.

Camille is not a boring or filler middle name. It is far more interesting than the likes of Rose, Lynn, Marie, etc. I agree that the French pronunciation is much, much better than the English in this case. Camille would be on my list otherwise. As an alternative, have you considered Camellia or Camelia? I quite like those names. From your list, I like Eva Camille the best.Other suggestions: Beatrice Camille
Delphine Camille
Elena Camille
Eloise Camille
Enora Camille
Evelyn Camille
Flora Camille
Iris Camille
Mattea Camille
Romola Camille
Serena Camille
Venetia Camille
Zosime Camille

Thank you :) The pronunciation issue really is one of my pet peeves, and I always feel like I'm terrible when I get funny about it, but fortunately that's rare as how often does your middle name come up? And I've learnt to be less prickly about it over the years. The most common issue is the "how do you spell that?" and I'm used to that with the names of family members and the h/no-h n/double n issue with my own first name.
I really like Flora Camille and and Iris Camille. Iris Camille is makes me think of a big bunch of flowers, it's very pretty. Mattea Camille is neat as all hell, I love it. Romola isn't my style but I find myself liking Romola Camille a lot. I really like Beatrice Camille too... I love Delphine, but my brain struggles with Delphine Camille. I don't know why because it's a combo which has cropped up a few times when I've been thinking up combos, and there's absolutely nothing objectionable about it. I think maybe Delphine gives me the same vibes as Camille for some reason on some level?
Zosime is so cool, I keep forgetting that name exists. I need to think about Zosime more often.
