I'm a fan. Not enough to use it, but I appreciate it. Half of me thinks it's hilariously ugly, and half of me thinks it's gentle and murmuring and romantic, like... turtles in a murmuring brook, like myrtle flowers, like turtledoves. It purrs, it's quiet. A sunbleached lace doily. A too-ornately decorated antique teacup that speaks of a once-fascinated imagination. Miles and miles removed from the ghastly car who just roared down the street disrupting all equilibrium and probably making birds unhappy. Myrtle is pre-industrial and knits on her porch and co-exists with songbirds just fine.

I quite like it. I like the burbling sound it makes, it's phonetically interesting for me. Myrtle falls into the "tough as nails but also warm and friendly" category of names for me, and I like such names. I also think it looks rather chic, if you ignore the sound, and can understand why it got so popular around the turn of the 20th century. I'd call a Myrtle "Myrtie".

I think it'd be a great hipster choice (if hipsters are still a thing? I'm so disconnected from the world now) and I'm honestly a bit surprised it hasn't had a tiny comeback yet.

Unattractive sound, like Bert and Mervyn. I had a colleague once whose younger sister was Myrtle; she always referred to her as "Myrt, the poor wee lamb". Myrt was having difficulty finding a job, deciding where she wanted to go in life, etc, etc; when we finally met the poor wee lamb, she had become a crane driver and was easily a six-footer.

Hideous. Nothing appealing in look or sound.

Eh, it's a bit dated and moany... But it isn't terrible or anything.

It has a sound like an annoying, nasal snicker.

Nice name. The nickname Myrtie is lovely.

I love it. The woman who was my mother’s supervising midwife when she was training was called Myrtle Celestina. I have good memories of her and her black Labrador called Blue and so have always liked the name.
