[Opinions] Lara
Hello, my partner and I are expecting and would like opinions on the name LARA. Any connotations etc that we should be aware of? (Besides Lara Croft and dr zhivago) We are an international couple so need a name that works in English/French/Arabic.

I can’t think of anything “bad” or “negative” about the name Lara. It’s quite a nice, underused name imo.

LaraI remember first hearing this name when I was in high school when a friend of mine and I started watching The L Word of which one of the love interests was a character named Lara. Though the character wasn't on for very long and I don't remember her doing anything in particular that was infamous. Lara is a pretty name in much better to the alternative Laura... with that said it is worth taking into consideration that she may be called Laura... at least occasionally. With that said I will throw in my two cents and suggest the name Lyra. It's a very similar to Lara and distinct enough people won't mistake it for something else. Both are great names though.

I would say something to keep in mind is the potential for pronunciation confusion - some people will say it "LAH-rah" and some will say it "LAIR-ah".

Lara is absolutely beautiful.I can't think of any other obvious associations other than the ones mentioned.

I mostly like it. Dr. Zhivago was always my main association. A far less appealing one in recent years, though, is Lara Trump. If you are not in the US, that may not be much of a thing.

I like it, I think of Lara from the book Looking for Alaska by John Green.
