Arthur has been a longtime fave from childhood, but I'm feeling Alfred today. It seems to have more personality, and I like that it means "elf advice". I also like all the nickname options and don't know anyone named Alfred. So it's refreshing and fun. Alfred it is.

I can see the appeal of Arthur I think - if I squint maybe. It's a softer name - which I prefer - and it's associated with a legend which I guess is a bonus. Perhaps if I lived a few decades ago I might like it... maybe. But I do like Alfred. I think I like most names which can be shortened to Fred/Freddie by default. However! I really, really hate the nickname Alfie for some utterly strange reason. It's not like it's bad or anything, there's just something about it. Maybe I knew somebody with this name when I was very very young and they bullied me or something - and when I say "very very young" I mean before Nursery because I remember everybody in primary school and none of them were Alfie / Alfred - maybe playgroup - or maybe it was the name of some dickish little boy on holiday. I really don't know, it just gives me bad vibes, you know? While I'm averse to Alfie (and Alf and Al for that matter which are unattractive and not cute), I do like Alfred. It is the name of a cute little yellow duck whose family was killed in a car accident, and was raised by the family friend mole. I can't be angry at it lmao

Arthur. I’ve been liking Arthur a lot lately, actually.I’m not crazy about the “alf” part of Alfred.

These were my husband’s cousin’s top two choices for a boy! She went with AlfredAlfie” in the end. I would have chosen Arthur.

Alfred, so I could use Freddie.

I really don't know. I absolutely adore Arthur, but it's sooo popular where I live. I'm not sure I could do it. I like Alfred well enough. It's popular too, but nowhere near as much, and I think a lot less likely to reach the same heights. Considering everything I want from a name for my kids, I'd probably go with Alfred.

ArthurArthur, because it's more 'usable' in my area, and if nicknames are inevitable, I'd rather have Art than Alfie. (Fred is not that bad, though).
