I like Sydney for a girl and I don't like Stanley, sorry.

I love the name Stanley on animals. On any kind of pet, it immediately bestows so much warmth and personality, either charmingly curmudgeonly or adorably sweet, depending on the animal's nature. It's like it enhances it. On a person, it's still a bit blah, dated in a boring way. I would be very surprised to hear about a baby Stanley, that might be actually be quite cute.

I like Sidney a lot, certainly much more for a boy than a girl. I like that it sounds so slick and has a bit of a rapscallion vibe. I think of a film noir detective or a fast-talking actor in an early talkie. It's on par with a name like Victor or Vincent - stylish yet slippery.

I prefer Stanley to Sidney; I don't mind Sidney for a boy but it makes no sense to me for a girl. I know a Jennifer whose mn is Sidney after her father, and that I suppose is OK, though I doubt it would have happened if his name had been, say, Reginald.

I like Sidney for both genders, but prefer Stan to Stanley..despite the whole "stalker fan- stan" thing. Its rather unfortunate.

I both like it.
