Kate is simple and sweet. Although it comes from a longer name like Sophie, it sounds better as a standalone name than Sophie. Sophie is cute, but kind of childish.

Kate, but mostly because i like Catherine/Katherine and Kitty as a nickname. Sophie for a child, though.

Sophie - I like this name because it's so beautiful, timeless, classy and nice in my opinion.

I feel like I know too many Kate's and Sophie's. The Kate's are now in their late thirties, the Sophie's in their teens and twenties. As a standalone name I prefer Sophie, it looks more complete than Kate.
