[Opinions] Is Brock the most unpleasant boy name ever?
Literally sounds like someone choking on a piece of broccoli.Only runner-up I can think of that's as bad as Brock would be Seth

I like the name Seth! Brock is gross, though.

I don't particularly like Brock, but I think Trent is worse. They're both very blunt names and I think that makes them sound unattractive to me.

It’s pretty bad. In comparison Seth is ok (although it does give me sinister vibes).I’m not a fan of Bruce or Brogan either.

I think Braxton is worse (the sound, Hicks) but Brock is bad.

It's up there but Wyatt is worse

It's up there. I think elaborating it makes it worse, like Broxxtyn

No.

I pretty much agree with you, except I think Seth is worse. It has a nasty, sneaky, disreputable vibe to it; Brock just sounds too stupid to do anyone much harm. The name Brock sounds like choking on broccoli.

Nah, Brock might be a rock of a name, but it isn't the worst. Cletus is much worse. Seth is pretty bad like Sloane. Brock is on a similar level to Claude.

I can’t picture Cletus on anyone other than the redneck on the Simpsons.

I have met a Cletus! He was a normal guy in his 30s.
Blue collar, though. Midwestern American.I feel like it's similar to Clay, Titus, Atticus, Otis, Cleon, Clyde.

I might feel different if I’d encountered thr name in some other context than the character, I suppose.

This is my brother’s name. It wouldn’t have been my first pick for a child, but it suits him. It’s a very cool and unique name in my mind; this name isn’t for everyone. It also sounds very strong, just like him as a person! He’s a very strong and amazing person. My dad picked it because he’s always liked it. It also reminds my of Brock from Pokémon (who my brother actually has always hated, lol). To annoy him, we nickname him “Broccoli,” “Brockosauras Rex,” “Brock-late Chip Cookie,” “Brooklyn” (which, Brooke is a name I actually like for a girl. This is all just affectionate teasing, of course). Brock does seem to kind of like his name; and he especially likes the meaning badger (he loves animals! A badger is a strong one, too!). Though, he’s considering going by his middle name as an adult. So…I guess I’m a minority here. I think this name isn’t that bad, but perhaps that’s because of my brother.Edit: Seth is actually a favorite of mine. So, I disagree with you there, as well.

What a well thought out comment! "Isn't for everyone"-- Exactly. But as you say, "sounds very strong." Which I think is what people are railing against. It's a rock of a name. Bam-- it's right there: BROCK. You know what I mean? You definitely know what I mean.Personally, I love to see the influx of diverse "essences" within male names, which have been pretty unyielding over time, but I want that diverse flavor profile to include strong, stone/earth-essence names too, like Brock.
When I talk about name essences, I'm not talking about a defined category (heritage, lingual characteristics, meanings... although these factor in on a psychological level). I just mean how that name feels, elementally. Like Llewellyn, which sounds like water. Blaise, obviously fire. Brock and Bruce are earth/stone.

Well, there's always Jaxtyn.

Seth at least has an interesting meaning and history. Brock is yet another surname transferred into use as a forename which sounds deeply unappealing.

It is extremely unpleasant. Probably almost as bad as Paxton. The Brock Turner association doesn’t exactly help.I don’t see what’s so bad about Seth.

Brock is awful (I blame the Y&R soap, which had a recurrent character called Brock Reynolds) but Ichabod is arguably worse!

I find Brock unappealing, it sounds so rough and it doesn't look good. The worst boy name to me would be Jaxxon, like what kind of stupid name it is. Seth on the other hand, is fine.
vote up2
I don’t like Jaxon and the x makes it even worse. Jackson is the only spelling of the name I like.

Brock would have to work hard to be worse than Marmaduke.
vote up6
Oh, it's up there.Seth, on the other hand, I have no problem with.

I love Brock and Seth.
vote up3
I don't think Seth is awful. Brock is probably not the worst ever, but it is quite unpleasant.

I named a praying mantis Brock. It’s a name that’s very hard for me to take seriously. Makes me think of a loud jock and that’s it. Seth is much better than Brock. I actually kind of like it.

Brock I'm not really fussed on, I don't see a problem with Seth

I have no strong feelings about Brock, just find it a bit silly. Seth is ok but Kevin I find dreadful.
vote up1
Why's Kevin dreadful? And would you say Kelly and Devin are better or worse?

Why does any one hate or love a name? Completely subjective. I just hate the sound and look of Kevin, its a name I despise, always have. I habe no issues with either Kelly or Devon as long as its spelled with an O.

Some people have reasons? Was curious.
I wonder what it is about the sound. Kelly and Devon and Kevin sound so similar to me.

Devil's Advocate: I kinda like the name Brock, for the warm fuzzy memories of Pokemon.

It isn't a very appealing name, I agree. I don't think it's among the absolute worst however. Still though, I'm glad to see it rapidly decreasing, and within less than five years time, I'm sure it'll fall from the official charts. I don't agree with Seth at all.
