[Opinions] Lillian
I've historically only been casually into this name but I have been liking it off and on a little bit more intensely the past year or so. The only thing that kind of gets me is it feels kind of "present day blase" sometimes. Like it exists and it's casually pretty but going to be tomorrow's dated here enough. I feel undecided. Do you have any hard hitting opinions on Lillian? Please rate my "Names I would Use" list & "Backup Favorites" list. Feel free to rate some of my other lists too if you have the time.

I know a girl called Lillian. She hates it and only gets called Lily. She hates it whenever someone calls her Lillian. Apparently she was called it "incase she became the future prime minister and Lily isn't formal enough". I don't think it's ancient- I just think of a young, lively girl from the early 1900's; someone young from the past.

I used to like it but now I just find it very ancient sounding.I prefer Lily.

I prefer Lillian over Lilly/Lily. I don't like Lily, not because it's popular, Its just don't like how its sounds LIL-ee, the e/y throws me off.

I mentioned Lillian to a (non-name nerd) friend of mine recently and she said "ew that's an old lady name", which surprised me. I've never thought of Lillian as particularly dated, even though I live in the UK where Lily is very trendy and popular right now and Lillian less so. I like it and would use it as a long name for Lily. Lily has long been a favorite of mine, but nevertheless I switch between preferring Lillian because it has more substance and preferring Lily because it's sweeter and less serious. I like that Lillian rhymes with million, billion, and trillion; for some reason, I think that's neat.

I prefer Lilian, which I think is likely to last longer than Lily. That extra L in Lillian just puts me off; it doesn't seem to do anything and I don't find it attractive.

Oh, I'm a Lillian convert, I love this name. I used to dislike it because it felt like Lily's wet-blanket cousin: so practical, frustratingly sensible. But eventually that's what made me love it. It's lyrical but has a comforting sort of structure and strength.I don't think it will become terribly dated - it's already sort of dated, but it's passed into the realm of vintage now, so even if it somehow rockets to number one on the charts, it still has some history. It wouldn't be dated the way something like Nova or Paisley will be. Even if I do, it would be kind of sweet, the way lots of Biblical names give me early 2000s nostalgia.
