[Facts] Sadako
Sadako is not listed in the database, much to my disappointment--I've loved it ever since I read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr. :DThe name is Japanese, and it's only been brought up in passing here once (here: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=50040&board=gen). The poster mentioned that Sada apparently means "chaste," which would likely make Sadako "chaste child"--but said poster didn't provide any point of reference, so I don't know if that information is any good.So what's Sadako mean, all?Array (loves saying Sadako Sasaki, the character's full name)ETA: For the heck of it, I looked up Sadako on Wikipedia, and it apparently can mean several things, depending on how it's written out in kanji. Here are the versions that were mentioned (I assume it's both given and surname in these, rather than just Sadako alone). I've put them below and the name of the person Wikipedia referred to in parentheses. If anyone reads kanji well (I don't at all, and my Japanese source is in her infancy with the language, heh), perhaps you could translate?-‹ãðߎq (Princess Kujo Sadako)
-²X–Ø ’õŽq (Sadako Sasaki--this is the one I'm most interested in, since she's the reason I know the name)
-•û ’åŽq (Sadako Ogata)
-ŽR‘º’åŽq (Sadako Yamamura)...Dang it, that didn't work. All right, the Wikipedia Sadako page is here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadako), and it has several different ways of writing out Sadako. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it greatly.

The "sada" kanji in Sadako Sasaki's name means "happiness".The "sada" kanji in Princess Kujo Sadako's name has several meanings, some of them are "season", "verse", "honor" and "tune".And the "sada" kanji in both Sadako Ogata and Sadako Yamamura's names is the one that means "chaste". It can also mean "righteousness" and "upright".
