I don't mind Evan. It is definitely a boy's name! It doesn't sound girly at all. And it doesn't sound too much like a surname

I love Evan, for a boy. I dont know why you think girl...but its completely masculine to me. I prefer Evander to Evan, but I still adore Evan. Great name

Evan is a nice name for a boy. I really dislike it for a girl.

No, it doesn't sound even slightly like a girl's name, but it has been used for girls, unfortunately (actress Evan Rachel Wood, and I know a little girl named Evyn, pronounced like Evan, who is named after her grandmother, Evelyn). I've heard of the surname Evans, but not just Evan. It's ok, for a boy, but not my favorite name. It seems a bit trendy at the moment, but nowhere near as popular (yet) as Ethan.
