How would you spell a name
Replies
I'd simply add an e. Cyane. That looks like see-AHN to me at first glance.
Thank you all
I'll just go with Cyan, pronounced like the word. I can't find any spelling for the other pronunciation that I like. But thank you all for your suggestions!

Sianne
See-Anne
Seanne is my best guess. Or Ceanne.
Hmm, that's tough. Maybe...
Ceyan
Siaun
Sionne
Seyon
???

Sionne is a good idea. It mimics Dionne, which has the same sound.
Seonne might be an alternative too.

I think it was a guy :P That's why I thought of Cyan. Even though it could be for a girl too. I don't know :P Argh it sounds so nice and I can't find a way to write it down without it looking weird.
Hmm Cionne and Sionne sound like see-OHN and not see-AHN to me. It was a long AAAAH sound :P
Cianne and Sianne then?
When I see Sionne/Cionne I think Dionne which has the AHN ending and not the OHN that you are describing... I guess that's where the hang up is. Where do you live? Maybe that has something to do with it? Im in the Northeast US.

Dionne has an OHN ending. At least it did in the movie Clueless and she was the only one I ever heard of (oh and Dionne Warwick). I'm probably just explaining it wrong, sorry, but the AHHH in see-AHN sounded different. Sorry, I suck at explaining pronunciations. Cianne is SEE-ann to me.
I wish I could think of an example....Argh. I guess I'll probably go with Cyan and pronounce it SIE-an. I like that too :P

Ok to me those sounds are all identical.
okay. so. I read most of this thread out loud because I am procrastinating and to illustrate the complete baffled-ness that goes through my mind during most of these pronunciation discussions.

apparently Cyan is emphasized on the first syllable! oops

Yup, these conversations get me so confused too!

Lol, I'm sorry... we're missing something here... :-( hope you figure it out.
I though it might be Irish? Could be wrong though. I just watched the Academy Awards and heard it said, I think it was a name mentioned by one of the winners but I can't remember. Do you think Cyan is maybe pronounced see-AHN in some countries? Hmmmm
