Re: Spelling survey
in reply to a message by Lily
Which is your favorite spelling of these names and why?HAY-lee- Hayley. I looks the most original to me. It also reminds me of Hayley Mills.
KAY-lee- Kaylie. My best friend (who is almost 27) is named Kaylie. She was supposed to be Katie, but her mom heard "KAY-lee" on TV a few days before she was born and she chose to spell it that way.
CAR-lee- Carly. It's the least made up.
KATE-linn- Caitlin, it's original.
KAY-linn- Kaylin, I guess.
AL-i-sen- Allison. I don't like it with one "l". It look incomplete to me that way.
JAY-den- Jayden. It looks the least made up.
KAY-den- Caden. It's the spelling I always picture first when I hear it.
HAY-den- Hayden, the original.
AY-den- Aidan, because it's the original.
KATH-rinn- Katherine, which is the spelling I've seen the most.
bree-ANN-a- Brianna, any other spelling makes me initially pronounce it differently.
ZO-ee- Zoey. I know it's not the original, but I really like how it looks with a 'y'.
Mak-AY-la- Michaela, it's the original.
MAD-eh-linn- Madeline. It's the original and the top name that my boyfriend and I agree upon.Which other spellings of these names do you find tolerable?HAY-lee- Hailey.
KAY-lee- Kaylee because I'm used to seeing it, but I dislike it.
CAR-lee- None.
KATE-linn- I don't mind Katelyn.
KAY-linn- I've never really thought about this name before. When I was a kid, I went to school with a boy named Calen, I guess that looks normal to me.
AL-i-sen- I guess I can tolerate Alison, but I don't like it.
JAY-den- I can also tolerate Jaden, but I don't like it.
KAY-den- None.
HAY-den- None.
AY-den- I don't mind Aiden because it has gotten so common so it's starting to look familiar.
KATH-rinn- I like Kathryn and Katharine, which I see as being alternative spellings and not creative. I don't mind Catherine, although I wouldn't use it.
bree-ANN-a- None.
ZO-ee- Zoe.
Mak-AY-la- I like Micaela because of the opera Carmen.
MAD-eh-linn- Madeleine is pretty, but it makes me want to pronounce it as MAD-e-line instead of MAD-e-LYNN. I don't hate Madelyn; I think it's because I like the shape of the word.
If you met anyone with these names, how would you assume they were spelled?HAY-lee- Hailey
KAY-lee- Kaylee
CAR-lee- Carly
KATE-linn- Katelyn or Caitlin
KAY-linn- Kaylin
AL-i-sen- Allison
JAY-den- Jayden
KAY-den- Caden
HAY-den- Hayden
AY-den- Aiden or Aidan
KATH-rinn- Katherine
bree-ANN-a- Brianna
ZO-ee- Zoe
Mak-AY-la- Makayla
MAD-eh-linn- Madeline
Are there any spellings of these names you really hate? Or any endings, letter combinations you really hate and why?HAY-lee- Haylee or Hayli. I guess I prefer it with a 'y' ending. I also dislike Hayly. I think it needs an 'e' before the 'y' to make it look complete.
KAY-lee- Kaylee. I don't like the 'ee' ending here. It looks more childish to me, although I typicalyl see Kaylee as a childish name anyways (even though it's my bff's name).
CAR-lee- Anything with a 'K', although I guess I don't hate 'Karly'. I also dislike it with the "leigh" ending.
KATE-linn- Anything too creative. Like Kaytlynne.
KAY-linn- Same as KATE-linn.
AL-i-sen- I knew an Alicen. I dislike that.
JAY-den- Anything too creative.
KAY-den- Same.
HAY-den- Pretty much anything aside from the original. I know that some people like Haydn, but that should be pronounced differently imo.
AY-den- Anything aside from Aidan, Aiden, and Aodhan.
KATH-rinn- Anything too creative. Like Catherynne.
bree-ANN-a- Briauna or something like that. I also dislike it with an 'e', like Breanna.
ZO-ee- None really. Zooey throws people off, but I don't dislike it.
Mak-AY-la- Anything aside from Michaela or Micaela.
MAD-eh-linn- Anything aside from Madeline and Madeleine, and possibly Madelyn.
