names you wouldn't use because of what somebody said
What are some names you love but you wouldn't use because of what someone said? One time when I was talking about the name Dagmar to my mom (for a character or pet) she goes "How is that a girl's name? Isn't that the name of Blondie's husband?" That kind of turned me off of that name for a while.

I used to love Aspen, but mentioned it to a friend once and he said, "why don't you just name her 'butt pencil?!'" :-/

I'm pretty good at shaking off other people's opinions if I completely disagree with them, but my mother once described Hannah as a fat, old washerwoman from an episode of Mystery, one with a greyed apron, frowsy hair, many chins, and big, red hands. I don't know if it was this description or if it was the look she had on her face, but it has really stuck with me, and Hannah is a no go. I actually think it's a calm, pretty name.

Blondie's husband is called Dagwood (and in Swedish translations he is called Dagobert), so don't worry about using Dagmar! :)

I know what her husband's name is. It's just that if my mom thought that I doubt she is the only one.

I wanted to name my eldest daughter Luna, but my mom said it was silly. And my ex didn't like it.
Still regret I didn't follow my feeling and named her Luna.

Lukas used to be my favourite boys name, it had been for years but then someone said that they didn't like it because it rhymed with mucas, and now everytime I hear Lukas / Lucas all I can think of is mucas... Not nice mental imagery at all!

Before, I thought about using Cosmo as a potential name for a boy. When I talked about it in a forum, a lot of people said that Cosmo was the kind of person who would get bullied all the time.

Aw, I used to really dig Cosmo. I still think it's kind of awesome.

When I was a kid, I came across the name Aryan, and I told my mom that I liked it. At that point, I didn't know about the Aryan Nation. I don't think I'll forget the look on her face. Her response was "Like the Aryan Nation?!" Needless to say, I stopped considering using Aryan for a future child.

It's Basil for me. I love Basil, but an ex of mine destroyed it for me. I said I was naming my phone Basil, and he was like "Basil? You realize that's an herb, right? Who would name anything Basil!" I knew it was an herb, but I fell in love with its meaning, and I will always love it for the Basile whom I met in France. Sigh. Btw, I love Dagmar too! :)

I love the name Basil, especially the Arabic meaning.
I'm considering this name for a future rabbit, but I would love this name for a little boy to, and even growing up it's still a good name, I could see this name for a baby, child, adult, elderly person. And his sister Rosemary, that would be so cute.

There really aren't many names I wouldn't use, lol. But my SO has expressed serious dislike of the name Ursula no I know that one will never be in the running, even though it's a favorite :( Same goes for Allegra mostly, though I think his hate of Ursula makes him appreciate Allegra a little more, hehehe. My mom has said she hates the name Rose because of a personal reference but I'd still love to use it.Calamity was seriously my favorite name for a girl when I was in 8th grade, I'm not kidding. And even now I might seriously consider it if I had a crazy enough SO to be on board. But of course I can't overlook all the Calamity Jane references, lol... I wouldn't really do that to my kid

What about Calanthe instead of Calamity?
