Jeez, take it easy!
I know the story of the name Olive and I know that it's a tree, too. I just don't care for it.
No need to be so angry!
I don't understand what I have done wrong?
First of all, English is not my first language. Actually, Olive used to remind me of Minette Walter's "Sculptress" in which Olive is a woman accused of a bestialic murder, and that's why I didn't like it originally.
But then I read so many comments by English-speakers who wrote "Olives are food, olives are food, yak, yak". So now, food is what I associate the name with. I thought it was the right thing to write to English-speakers...I didn't mean any harm...
And I know what olives trees look like, I have seen them in Greece. I'm not stupid, but I feel very stupid when you react like this and give me a lesson.I feel very sad and upset right now.

WhoaI think you took that response a little too personally.Anywho I love the name Olive and actually, the color is the first thing that comes to mind for me... it's a very earthy tone and I love that

gosh, sorryI only used caps because you did. I thought it was sort of funny. I'm so sorry that I seemed to be attacking you. I don't take these kinds of opinion differences very seriously, so I felt like my "ranting" tone would seem silly.

If you had been the only one who associated Olive with olives to eat, I probably would not have even replied. You just seemed to say it most strongly, so I responded to you with my objection.I don't think my opinion is bigger than yours. If you (and almost everyone else, haha) associate it with food, there's not a whole lot I can do about it. It just disappoints me that people don't think of the tree, because if you do, the name is so much nicer. And to me, the tree thing is really a strong association so it's hard for me to imagine how people can think of the fruit but not the tree. I'm not attached to the name and wouldn't use it, I just am trying to get people to see it more positively.

Olive the Other Reindeer...I didn't comment earlier but I really like Olive. It reminds me of olives and I love olives. I actually don't automatically think of the peace meaning or of the tree, which is weird. I probably don't automatically think of the tree since olive trees don't grow here. I probably don't usually think of the term olive branch for the same reason. Doves remind be of olive branches.Maybe I will try to get my brain to associate Olive with the tree and with peace, because I like those associations. Oh Olive also reminds me of Olive the Other Reindeer children's book which was later made into a movie where Drew Barrymore voiced the dog Olive. Maybe that's what originally put Olive on her radar and why she loves the name so much that she used it.

OK.
Well, you see, in Swedish, "oliv" simply means "olive" like the fruit (?) you eat. Olive like the tree is "olivträd" (olive tree, simply). So I haven't really thought about it being the name of a tree, too. Actually, I haven't thought of it as food either. I mostly wrote it because I thought it was...well, the thing you "should" think of the name.
Also, I associate Olivia with a cute little girl who liked me a lot. I'm usually so awkward when I meet little children, so I felt so happy when this little girl liked me and wanted to hug! That's why Olivia sounds better than Olive to me.But Olive isn't that bad. At least it's a proper name, far better than atrocities like Audio Science...

I like Audio. Not crazy about Science but the sound isn't bad. Don't care for Audio Science as a combo sinse it sounds like a college course, but actually it would be very fitting for use by someone like my SO, an audiologist :)
