Mayim, for a boy
I've liked this name in a boy for awhile now, but it's just recently caught my attention as a favorite. What are your opinions on the name Mayim? Particularly in regards to its use on a boy_______________________________________

I really like the name, but only for a girl. It seems odd to me for a boy, sorry.

To clarify pronunciation...It's said, "MY-im"

I think that all of the Blossom and Big Bang Theory fans (or those who just know about them) out here know that. When I said it sounds like Maya in my previous post, that's because I pronounce Maya /MY uh/ (schwa in the second syllable), which to me is close to /MY im/. The database here also says it's feminine.

I was clarifying for anyone who hasn't heard it before- since at least 2 people thought it was said with a "May" sound instead. I know it's classified as feminine, that's why I specified "for a boy" in the title

I think it sounds better on a girl.

Unfortunately it just makes me think of "mayhem." Not a great association. Sorry.

I'm not that sure how to pronounce it. It also reminds me of the word 'maim', which is not such a great thing.

I don't like the sound of it at all anyway, and the only Mayim anybody knows is Mayim Bialik who is female, and so I think Mayim on a boy would be as foolish as Liberace on a girl.

I agree. Mayim Bialik is the only Mayim with name recognition (at least in the US). It would be weird to hear such an uncommon, female-associated name on a boy.

Ditto (or tritto?) the both of you. Plus Mayim just sounds and looks very feminine to me.

Vote 4 for girls only. Maybe it's the May in the name that makes it feminine, since that's an English name. It's also close to Maya in sound.

Jumping in line here to agree with the above posters ^ I do like it for a girl
