My husband chuckles at my online name-nerd-ery. He also always asks why I don't say much in real-life name conversations. I wonder about that sometimes too. But I guess I assume 'normal' people wouldn't get it. Which your story proves.
I find Riley pretty boring on either gender. I don't have a problem with surnames on girls as a principal. But I don't like Riley.
