Re: No One Likes It But Me

I love Sunshine! Sunny is a cute nn as well. I can't believe anyone would find Charlotte dowdy. It's up their with Sophia as being the epitome of a classy name.
I don't really discuss names in real life, but I remember Nichelle and Manfred were at times my favorite names, and when I posted about them here not a single person liked them, which floored me. I don't recall anyone liking Tancred when I posted about it either, but I wasn't quite as surprised.

Ooh, I like Tancred. I don't think I would ever use it as a first name, but it would make an awesome middle.
Heh, I was told it sounded like tan-crud.
I can't believe anyone would find Charlotte dowdy. GUILTY! I always dredge that word up when giving my opinion on Charlotte. I'm surprised Billina has run into a lot of people in real life who thinks it's dowdy, though, because it's quite popular. But then I suppose no matter how popular a name is, there will still be a substantial number of people who dislike it.
The people I talk to had babies quite some time ago, so maybe that's part of it. It's not fresh to them, it's old lady.

There isn't really a concrete reason. It's not because of anyone I've known with the name. I've known only two Charlottes, and one was a young woman who was in her twenties and was odd in some ways, and androgynous, but certainly not dowdy. And the other is my six-year-old-great niece, who isn't dowdy---what six-year-old is? It's just something about the sound of the name. Whenever I hear it, instantly a picture springs up in my mind of a short, plain, middle-aged woman with frizzy, mousy brown, unattractive hair, thick glasses, and orthopedic shoes. LOL. Completely subjective.
