Re: WDYT of Madigan and Breccan/Breckin? -
in reply to a message by Joiya
Madigan goes with Murphy and Finnegan and Riordan and Cassidy and Gallagher and Keegan and Quinlan etc etc ... has that "feckless, lucky, and chipper" character-vibe of Irish surnames. It's sorta likable, but it's a little too self-consciously characterish for my taste. Also, sounds a little too much like "mad again."Breccan spelling reminds of Moroccan, Rebecca, and Wiccan. It also looks sort of like a nickname for ... something. Breckin makes me think of beckon and wrecking. I guess they both just seem surnamey, in a generic way, with the usual spiffy/spunky vibe those types of names have. NMS as I don't really like the sounds Br- and -kin very much, but not awful. I think Breccan looks more sophisticated or tweedy, like Brendan or Declan, and Breckin looks more rugged and sporty like Brock or Beckham.- mirfak

Love your assessment of Breccan. I like Breckin a bit better - but not really in love. Maybe I should mention that Madigan is unisex, and I was unconsciously thinking of a girl.

Yeah, I would be a little less surprised to meet a young female Madigan than a male one. But as I answered you I was picturing it as a boy name, I guess because it just seemed more appropriate. heh
