Religious Ed. Birth Announcements
Peggy, who is in charge of the religious ed. program at my local church, has become a grandmother for the first time. Her daughter Erica and her husband Frankie welcomed a daughter named Shannon Audrey on Oct. 17. Along with that, the religious ed. teacher I work alongside, Geri Randich, has also had a granddaughter. Her daughter Amy and her husband Austin had Annabelle Grace (Belle) this week. Geri has 2 other granddaughters, one of whom is now in the class (Casey; the other granddaughter, Casey's sister, is named Riley). What do you think of Shannon Audrey and Annabelle Grace (Belle)?

Shannon Audrey doesn't have an ideal flow and I find Shannon to be dated and uninteresting since I've known so many. Audrey, otoh, would have been much more captivating.I'm really liking the quirkiness of Belle so I'm fine with Annabelle Grace although I'm not loving Grace in the middle and I do wish the parents had just gone with Belle as the fn.Overall, nothing horrible here, just nms.

Shannon is really dated in my eyes. 1970's/80's and then thrown into the name abyss, like Tiffany and Stephanie. Audrey is sweet. I could like the combo better if it were Audrey Shannon because the middle name slot is a little less important. Annabelle Grace is the new Isabella Grace.

I knew a young couple who, about three to four years ago, were expecting a girl, and the husband wanted to name her Isabella. The wife vetoed that because she knew how popular Isabella is. What they named the baby instead was Annabel. So I think you're right when you say "Annabelle Grace is the new Isabella Grace." Those who reject Isabella due to popularity are likely to turn to Annabelle or Anabel because of the similarity in sound and style. You can already see that in Annabel/Annabelle's popularity statistics.

I don't really like the way Shannon sounds. It's meh. I do like Audrey, though. It's an old name, but it sounds kind of modern. Shannon Audrey flows well, too. Annabelle is a great name, although I feel that the Annabelle spelling is too frilly, especially in conjunction with the girly and kind of boring Grace. I would have spelled it Annabel or Anabelle, because I feel like the two sets of double letters is too much. Grace is a nice enough name, but very bland.

Shannon bothers me because it's faux Irish. Americans think they are being all Irish when they use it. I knew the mother of a Shannon who said she was "honoring her Irish heritage" when she named her daughter Shannon. Um, no. Shannon is not used as a personal name in Ireland. It's the name of a river. It's like an Irish person thinking that they are being really American by naming their kid Mississippi. Anyone who wants an Irish name should use an authentically Irish personal name.I hate Audrey. The initial "aaww" sounds make me a little physically ill.I like Annabelle but I have a feeling that people who use it think they're being all cutting edge and don't realize that it's becoming really trendy. I hate Belle, though, I'd never call an Annabelle Belle.Grace is fine but it's a filler middle name.
