I know plenty of girls called Chris. Most went by Christy or Chrissy when they were younger, but I don't see why a younger girl couldn't go by Chris.
I see Chris in the same light as Alex. As a full name, it's more male, but as a nickname it's whatever.
She definitely would not be teased.
