If you like Gem but not Gemma, what about the nurses call her Gem and then the person who takes care of her calls her Jemima?
Maybe Sky, and then Skylar?
Jem and then Jewel?
Jem and then Juliet? More of a stretch that one, though.
If the nurses called her Jay, as in Blue Jay, then she could be give any name that starts with J.
If one of the nurses was Indian, maybe Nila? (Sanskrit for dark blue).
Sini - Blue in Finnish
Cyan - kind of greenish blue
Azure
Sapphire nn Saffy
Could they call her just Blue? If the baby was a boy it'd tie nicely in with "little boy lost, little boy blue" but I don't know what the person caring for her would then call her. Belle?
