HelpWould Elsa be torturous for a child?
Do you think using the name Elsa during a time where there's so much Frozen hype would be torturous for a little girl? My husband and I both like the name a lot (especially because we have an older daughter named Heidi), but I worry it will always be met with "Oh, like from Frozen?"
One issue I'm having with Elsa is the popularity aspect. While it's popularity ranks in the 500s, it is really everywhere right now, so it kind of puts the name in a strange category of being unusual yet extremely common.
Would you use it? Do you think it will shoot up in popularity?
(For reference, our kids are Heidi, Rhys, and Griffin.)

Elsa sounds so awesome with Heidi, Rhys (one of my personal favorites), and Griffin! If you like it, go ahead and use it. The hype about Frozen will pass, and people will be aware of the name (and know how to pronounce it). I don't see it skyrocketing in popularity, not even into the top 100 or so.
There's actually a young woman I know named Elsa. She's in her early twenties, so she was obviously named way before the movie. She really rocks the name and always gets a lot of compliments on it. She handles the Frozen references with grace, but they're getting less common. Elsa is definitely usable in real life.

Elsa is a lovely name. Do I think it will shoot up in popularity? Yes. But popular names are becoming less and less common - meaning, the top ten given names comprise a much smaller percentage of births than they did years ago. I wouldn't let popularity be a deterrent.
Yes, in 2015, as the Frozen mania is still going, people will automatically think first of "Let it Go"...but they'll quickly form new associations as they get to know your own little Elsa.

Would I use it? Yes.
Do I think it will shoot up in popularity? Only slightly, because it is a name that is becoming more familiar and someone else out there is going to be, "Oh, I really like Elsa". A lot of people will probably be afraid to use it for the reason you stated, though.
I think Heidi & Elsa would make a lovely sibset. I think as a child, I would think it was pretty cool, and likely other kids would, too. :)
I think it ages well and grows well; it fits a small girl and a grown woman.
I feel your pain though, because I think Hermione is beautiful, but that has been a bit unusable for me, haha.

I know an Elsa who is a couple years old and her parents are wondering the same thing. However, I think that Elsa will jump in popularity, but maybe not as much as people think.
It's a fine name, and quite pretty besides having a strong sound - so I would suggest that you use it anyway.
However, you can always go with Elsie or Elise if you love the sound but want to avoid the hype right now.
The name itself is one people's tongues - but it's not necessarily being used for newborns quite yet.

I think it will certainly increase in popularity. It's a very pretty name, and you should definitely use it if it makes you happy. That's the key.

I would never use Elsa because it's ugly to me and puts me in mind of some big bruiser blonde in thigh-high boots waving a whip around. lol
Frozen is definitely very popular now and probably will be well-known for a long time. There's not many other references to the name Elsa that people in general are going to know about, so yes, she probably will get Frozen associations.

I don't think it'll be torturous to use Elsa for a little girl and would use it without any issue. It's a beautiful name and it goes well with Heidi.
You never know how much a name will shoot up in popularity especially with girls. Elsa has it all, the name is short, sweet, easily recognizable and fits in with the current trends, but that does not mean it will shoot up. I heard the same concerns about Hermione at the HP time and the name never lived up to the hype and concern of becoming popular.

I think Elsa is just fine. Here in Sweden it's a common name, so I don't think people would immediately associate it with Frozen.

The hype will pass. If it's your favorite name you should just use it.
I think it'll be no worse than any other Disney princess name, by the time she's five.
I would not use it if it were one of several equally liked favorites, just because I myself might associate it too much with Frozen. But if it were my absolute favorite I'd been hoping to get to use, I'd just use it.
I think it'll gradually become more popular for some time, not be just a fad but more of a steady trend. Like Eva. It was starting to rise long before Frozen came out. Worst case, it's like Amelia - but even Amelia is being given to less than 1 in 300 girls nationwide, and it's top 20!
