I'd like to see it as a mn with family significance.
As a fn, I don't like lnfns in general, and I've seen a lot of variant spellings, like Haydon, which don't appeal. Also, I've met a Haydn, that spelling, who pronounced his name like Haydon instead of like the composer. So there are issues, apart from the obvious nn being Hay!
That said, I certainly don't see it as a girl name - was that what you meant?
