I think 'w's are so fun to say. I love Edward for this reason, and Edwin is right up my alley. I know it is oldschool, but there is almost something refreshing about it.
Win is a pretty cool nn. I'd usually think of Winston as a good first name for this, though the character from The New Girl pretty much ruins that name for me.
I think something can be preppy without being self-important. It is both a little preppy, but also a little hip.
I remember reading in the Joy Luck Club about how one of the children was named Winston, because the words "wins" and "ton". Some people think naming your child something like this draws positive energy to them, so I think it is all in your philosphy, here. :)
