And then we have Charlize Theron...
...who adopted a baby girl and named her August.
She joins big brother Jackson, who is 3.
I actually like August for a girl, so this cleanses the palette after Jagger Snow. I have a feeling a fair number of people here won't like it, though.

Terrible, terrible, terrible! August is all boy to me. Seriously over all this using boy names for girls! I mean, come on people, there are plenty of names out there to choose from!
It's not bad. Far better than Jagger, of course.
Both of the RL Augusts I know are female, and I've come to enjoy it as a girl's name. I imagine a lot of people would rather see Augusta, but I think it's too starched and fusty for Jackson's sister.

August is too strongly linked to DH's wildly eccentric (not in a good way) former boss for me to feel remotely positive about it.
But that's got zilch to do with this little girl. And some months are probably quite unisex, though it'd be a strange parent who'd name a boy April or May or June.
What really puzzles me is that the adoption, and therefore presumably the birth, took place in July ...

August sounds too masculine for a girl to me. At least it is better than Jagger (but that's not saying much).
August is nice and classical sounding particularly by comparison. I prefer it on a boy but it definitely works for either gender.
It's better than Jagger Snow but I still don't like it.
In my opinion August is an incredibly bland name. I'm fine with it on a guy but in a girl? August has a very strong masculine sound in my opinion.

I like August for a boy and can tolerate it for a girl. In general I think her kids have ok names for a celebrity.
It's fine. Certainly sounds more masculine than feminine, but not overly so.
The kid would have been better off with her real parents, even if they would have chosen a "low class" name.
Umm... The only way August was available for adoption is if her parents had already relinquished parental custody. It isn't a question of if she would have been better off with her biological parents because they chose not to parent her, and generally, a child is better off with parents, through adoption or otherwise, than without any at all.

They chose not to parent her.
Actually, you mean "rights" and not "custody", and both of these statements are probably true in this particular case, but may not necessarily be, and definitely are not in some cases. I question the extent to which any mother truly and freely gives up her infant for adoption.
I refuse to use the term "biological parents" ever again.
Anyway, this is about names, and the remark was meant facetiously.

I prefer August on a boy, but I think it works well on a girl. I kind of hope she calls her Augie... I find that super cute, though I understand why people don't like it much. I also like it much better than her brother's name.
Also... "Willoughby wolloughby waugust, and elephant sat on August" is kind of fun.

I just don't "get" August on a girl; it sounds so masculine to me, and the perfectly good Augusta is like right there so why not use that? It doesn't really irk me like the use of Spencer and Clark and such on girls, though; it just confuses me.
I actually kind of like the idea of Jackson & August together, though.

I don't get it either. It's uber masculine.
If only...
... she were to have gone with evocative Augusta.
"Gus" is such a heavy, masculine syllable, and August only rings masculine to me. I don't like the name; it has the same repellant stuffiness as Ambrose. Augusta would have been a real crowd-pleaser. August has been done enough lately, but Augusta would cause a real splash! I like Augusta.

A lot better than Jagger.
In Sweden it's exclusively given to boys, so I think it sounds strange on a girl.
I really like it. August feels pretty unisex to me, anyway.
August works as a unisex name for me, although I prefer it masculine. Compared to Jagger it's a dream.
Why couldn't she just call her Augusta? Although I admit, this infinitely better than Jagger.
I like it.
Pull it off out of necessity, perhaps.
My mother had an aunt who was always called Gustie. (Actual name Augusta.)
Mum's family was given to nick-names and short forms of names, and adding "ie" on if at all possible. I do that sometimes also. The apple didn't fall far from the tree.
