Agreed. Double barreled names of the french variety are very common where I live, they are pretty dated though.
My sisters and I all have double names, my older sister and I have two first names no hyphen and my little sister has two first names with a hyphen. We all only use the first part of our names.

My twin sister and I also had double barrels with no hyphens. We almost always went by just the first part... sometimes just the second.
