The only double-barrelled names that truly appeal to me are Mary names:Mary Katherine (Mary Kate)
Mary Eleanor (Mary Elle)
Mary Isobel (Mary Bel)
Mary Belle
Mary Alexandra (Mary Alex)
Mary Claire
Mary Louisa (Mary Lou)
Mary Elizabeth (Mary Bess, Mary Beth)
Mary RoseI suppose there are a few more:Anne-Marie
Cora Mae
Marie Claire
Sophie ClaireMale double-barrelled names hold no appeal for me. I can't even think of any off the top of my head.

They don't seem to work in practice, in my experience. Marianne will stay Marianne, but Mary-Ann is likely to become Mary. Or, in the case of male names, they dwindle into initials, with Jean-Pierre becoming JP or Peter-John -> PJ, poor chap.

Anna Sophia and Mary Grace. I'd use them as a first and middle name (no hyphens ever!!!) and use them both sometimes myself, but I wouldn't insist on anyone else using them. That's fighting a losing battle in my experience.ETA: I also like Marie Claire, but the magazine has pretty much ruined that one.

Yes, I've considered Marie Claire too. I prefer it to Mary Claire, but the whole magazine thing sort of ruins it.

I love Marie Claire too :( sad about the magazine. I also like that it's mentioned in the song by Peter Starstedt (sp?)

Mary Grace and Anna Sophia are very nice. I don't mind hyphens but there not necessary. It would be difficult to have other people remember to say both names.
What do you think of
Evelyn Grace
Clara/Claire Fae
Elisabeth Winter or to long

Those are all nice as combos (though I personally dislike Evelyn and Fae), but don't flow as double names to me.

Double barrelled names are not common place here in Australia. There are a few that I love, though I am not a huge fan of double barrelled names. The ones I like are: Molly-Rose
Lily-Rose
Ruby-Mae
Amber-Rose
Mary-Jane
Mary-Kate
Mary-Louisa
Mary-Eliza
Milly-RoseThere would be more, with the same second names as these, like Rose, Mae, Jane, Kate etc. My very favourite and one I would actually use is Molly-Rose. I just adore that name and have since I was a child. DH is not a fan of double barrelled names though. Not a big fan of these names for boys, but I suppose Jean-Pierre, John-David and John-Paul are all alright.

I'm a fan of Molly-Rose as well. It wouldn't work with the formal names of my other dds, though, so I'd never use it.

I am from Australia and the article I read mainly mentioned on the rise in the UK.
I like
Milly-Rose very sweet
Mary-Eliza
Mary-JaneJean-Pierre is a great name. What do you think of Mae-Jane or Cleo-Rose or Chloe-Rose. PNL: http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/151224

Mae-Jane is too choppy for me, but Cleo-Rose and Chloe-Rose are lovely.

It pleases me when both a first and a middle name have four letters and are considered a double barrel name. I am not so impressed by hyphens in this situation. I made a poll just now, being inspired by this post, of names that I like that have four letter first and middle names, and could easily be double barrel, e.g. John Luke, Mary Ruth.http://www.behindthename.com/polls/250705

You have a nice list. I could totally get behind Mary Ruth, Anna Rose, Rosa Jane, Lila Ruth, and Cora Jane. John Ezra is so handsome. I love it.

Double names are extremely rare when I live, even among the French-speaking population, so I get excited when I see them. A few I have seen are:Marie-Ange
Chloe-Jeanne
Jean-Luc
I love some Baroque and Rococo examples of double names, because they are often unexpectedly paired. Like Maurice-Quentin, Clara-Joanna and Constantia-Albertina. Not exactly user-friendly...but cool.
vote up1
Constantia-Albertina and Clara-Joanna remind me of the non-hyphenated double barrels that pop up in Baroque > Georgian royalty: Caroline Mathilde, Sophia Dorothea, Victoria Eugenie, etc. Two distinct names that together make a specific person.
vote up1
That makes sense
I really like
Chloe-Jeanne
Clara-Joanna is great combining two of my favourite names
Jean-Luc is very nice and classical
Jean is a nice add on to names.
Jean-Claude
Jean-Baptiste
Jean-PaulClaude-Luc could maybe work

I don't think about double-barrelled names, like, ever. But I do like Ruth-Ann.

Ruth-Ann is a sweet, old-fashioned name. Cute!

My very favourite double barrelled name I thought of is Luna- Fae. But then I love Fae with pretty much any girls name. I quite like Pandora- Fae and Anna- Mae too. For boys I kind of like Archie- Jay.
vote up1
Luna-Fae is pretty great. I'm all for Anna-Mae because of it's simplicity and they're great names, but my first thought was 'anime'.
vote up1
Thanks! Anime was the first thing I thought of when I hear Anna-Mae too, which made me laugh since I heard it on Downton Abbey haha.

Ooh Luna-Fae. I'd name kids Pandora and Luna-Fae. Well I might make the second name something longer like...Fantine. or Fatima.
vote up1
I actually considered have Pandora and Luna-Fae as sisters, but Luna-Fae didn't quite fit, still love her though :).
vote up1
Luna-Fae is a great name. Fae is a really lovely name. Pandora-Fae is great very fantastical and different.
What do you think of Arabella-Fae
Phoenix-Jay sounds quiet nice as well.

Thanks! Arabella-Fae is absolutely gorgeous! Phoenix-Jay is great too; quite birdy haha, but handsome.

I LOVE Arabella and that combo! So sweet!

Hmm, I prefer smoosh names (Marianne, Anneliese, Rosemarie) to hyphens. The only hyphen double-barrels I would use are French traditionals, like Marie-Claude. Anne-Sophie, etc.
vote up1
I agree that names such as Marianne and Anneliese are nicer then double-barrelled name.
French and Italian double barrels are nice including Ana-Sophia as well as Anne-Sophie.

Ooh, Ana-Sophia is beautiful. I recently saw a Maria-Olympia as well (think she was Greek?), which struck me as gorgeous.

Agreed. Double barreled names of the french variety are very common where I live, they are pretty dated though. My sisters and I all have double names, my older sister and I have two first names no hyphen and my little sister has two first names with a hyphen. We all only use the first part of our names.
vote up1
My twin sister and I also had double barrels with no hyphens. We almost always went by just the first part... sometimes just the second.
