Re: Caitriona (and Catriona), they're basically pronounced the same as Katrina. I've heard Irish and Scottish speakers pronounce it slightly differently, accentuating the o, but it's so slight that it's easy to miss. That's why Katrina makes so much sense to non Irish and Scots. You can go to Forvo.com, type in the name and hear the way it's pronounced by Irish and Scottish speakers. BTW, I can see why the name wouldn't work in Italian.

Re: Ailsa, I've read where Ailsa can mean 'fairy' and also, where it's the Scottish form of Elizabeth (Ealasaid) so I'm not sure of the exact meaning, however, I prefer 'fairy rock' (Ailsa Craig). It's such a beautiful name.
