I think people who like it must think it sounds enough like names such as Rosalie, Hilary, Marjorie, and Emily, to be feminine. And yet it's a surname-name, so it has that "spunky / aloof" air, that I think derives from calling sports participants and famous subjects by their surnames. I imagine those who like Avery (f) are people who would use Ava, but they think that it sounds too old-fashioned or matronly.- mirfak
