Re: Which one

Winnie is sweet. Winifred isn't. Also, namenerds are different when they try to be cool - I've noticed that it's in to chose the oddest, most different names that "no one else has."
Aine explained that Edwina has a much different vibe in Australia, which I understand. But with Winifred- it's really the fred part. I can't get past how grating it sounds, nor can I imagine a young person being named Winifred. I feel the same way about Ethel, it's time is gone. I think it's a name that will die out. I think it's important to think about how a child's name will affect them.
I do understand loving a name and wanting to use it. If my husband would let me I'd use Solveig in an instant, and it's quite a mouthful. And my daughter would probably never forgive me, honestly. :-/
