Re: Names You Have Soured On
in reply to a message by RDNZL
I've never been very fond of Jenny, but now I really can't stand it because of a certain person.
I thought Anatoly was handsome until I read about a Russian serial killer with that name.
I ADORED Symphorosa until I read that symphorophilia is being sexually aroused by watching disasters!
I thought Pancras was cool until people taught me the English word pancrea. Same with Sabia and labia, Celia and cilia, Candida as in yeast infection and Merrow sounding like marrow.
I still like Ophelia and Ofelia, but the only Ofelia I've met was terribly unpleasant. Same with Johanna, I've met several (it's a very common Swedish name) and I've only liked one or two.
I think Hedvig is a nice old name, but a teacher ruined it for me.
Being a Phantom of the Opera fan I should have a weak spot for Erik, but it just reminds me of the guy my best friend (or so I thought) started dating which meant she ignored me totally.
OK, enough whining now, I guess...
On the other hand, I can tell you that I used to hate the name Birgit because of a handicraft teacher, but then I had the most wonderful drama teacher called Birgit, so now it's a good name for me. And I happend to meet the most manipulative, unpleasant and probably psychopathic A**HOLE on earth and she was called Inger, so it's not exactly a name I would give my daughter, but I now know two very nice women called Inger.
Does the sea exist
Because of our longing?
