Name Jersey for a girl.
What do you think of the name Jersey for a girl?

Don't you immediately think of Jersey cows? I know I do!
Jersey Shore? Jersey cow? Football/baseball/soccer/etc jersey?
Yeah, pass. But even without any associations... Nope, it just doesn't sound nice.

I don't like it at all. But, I am from NY so I cannot imagine why anyone would want to name their kid Jersey (cultural prejudice!).
That said (and hopefully you didn't take it offensively), I also don't like the material reference. I wouldn't choose Rayon or Cotton for a kid either.
The sound of Jersey is not terrible.
What about names with similar sounds like Linsey or Jerusha?

I’ve seen a lot of awful names and I don’t think Jersey is one of them. It’s different but it’s not bad; I think it’s pretty cute and harmless. Definitely won’t be another Jersey in her class (at least not as of right now lol). Yeah, it’s a type of clothing but Jade is a gemstone and Willow is a type of tree...need I go on? :)
Gemstones and trees are beautiful, natural examples of gorgeousness that have inspired poets since the dawn of poetry, though. To be compared to a tree or a gem is a wonderful compliment. There aren't too many poems dedicated to sweaters or sports apparel.
Although I did write an Ode to My Maternity Pants once, so maybe you're on to something. (If anybody out there has never worn maternity pants, ALL PANTS SHOULD BE MADE LIKE THAT.)

The fabric/shirt/state were all named after the island of Jersey, which I think could be described as a beautiful, natural place.

Omg some of these are hilarious! “...but it’s an OLD sweater.”
i'm not a fan. i think of the shirt and the state, and even beyond all that it just doesn't have a good sound. sorry.
I think it's awful ...
For a girl or a boy or a pet, even. It brings to midn New Jersey and what athletes wear to work.

Taught a girl named Jersey.. she didn't make me like it any further either..
I don't think it's an attractive name. If I was writing a story that had an exotic dancer, I feel like Jersey would be a good name..

wth, go for it. I like it more than Paisley.
It's a cow. Also an island (with its own language), a knit fabric and a woolly item of clothing, so it seems pretty strange to me as a person's name, and I don't really get the appeal.
I met one, only her parents spelled it Jerseii.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Pfffft. Don’t they know that’s for when you have more than one Jersey?
I’m not sure if it’s the same in the US or other countries but in the UK it’s another name for a jumper.
The difference is we don't call them jumpers lol.
I thought that might be the case. Now that I think about it “jumper” is a very British sounding word.
"Jumper" is overalls, right?
Like, pants that hook up around your shoulders?

In the UK we call what you’re talking about dungarees.
In North Anerica, a jumper is a one-piece outfit, one that covers your top and bottom. In the UK, a jumper is a sweater.
The more you know...!
I think of cows. Or sportswear. Not a name, for me.
It does have a cool, spunky sound, but I can’t get behind it. If I met somebody with this name, I’d assume her parents saw Coyote Ugly a few too many times. Don’t get me wrong, I love that movie, but it’s not a masterpiece and Jersey was still the stage name of some girl dancing on a bar to make money.
The other associations I have with it are
-the cow
-the fabric
-the trashy Jersey Shore TV show
Maybe for a pet?

I'm from New Jersey and I love New Jersey so I'd like to think that Jersey makes a fine personal name, but I don't. It's just not attractive as a personal name.
But I knew a woman who was also from New Jersey and had named her dog Jersey, and that I approve of.

It's a shirt...
...so no. Might as well name her Pants. lol
