Here in South Africa, I've never met a George who wasn't Greek. Except a friend of my mother's, who was actually Freda but got everyone to call her George - decades before Harry Potter, and she was straight and married-with-kids.
I don't mind George at all, but I wouldn't use it because I much prefer Georgina for a girl.
