Easteu?
Easteu appears as the third given name (Florence Emily Easteu) of someone on my family tree, born in about 1870. I've never seen it anywhere else; it appears on several documents. Any ideas? It seems so very strange. She was the only girl, and none of her brothers had even one middle name.

I hope you can find an exact birth date for her. If so, compare it to the day Easter fell that year. That could account for her being given a third middle name. I have a 2nd great-aunt named Narcissa Laura C. Florence. She was the first girl, (born in 1870 like your Florence), and it seems like her mother was trying to name her after every relative she could. Her siblings only have one or two names. I hope you're able to solve this mystery

She was born in October, so that won't work. Good idea, though!

On to the next theory!

Maybe it's a scribal error of Easter?

Google thought I was searching for Easter or east EU. Totally plausible. My mother's name was actually misspelled on her birth certificate... shit happens. :/

Sounds like a Romanian surname to me

My first thought was that it looked French but I can't find anything for it online. My second guess is that it was someone's surname and she was named after them. Interesting. There's always that one name in a family that can't be traced!Unrelated, but Florence Emily is a beautiful combo, and I don't even care for Florence.
