Spear us the details!
According to Hanks & Hodges, the surname "Gore" is actually derived from the Old English word *gara* (a derivative of the word *gar*, meaning "spear") and refers to a person who came from a triangular piece of land -- resembling the triangular shape of a spearhead.Apparantly the name (and presumably the odd-shaped properties, as well) sprang from the regions of Kent and Wiltshire in England.-- Nanaea
