Tracing it origin
I am trying to trace the origin of my great grandmother's middle name - Anthem. She was of Seminole descent but raised by a French family. She was born in 1876, before the US National Anthem was declared. Thanks, Marilyn

Anthem, meaning a song of loyalty to a country or a choral setting of Bible verses, is a word that has existed for over 1500 years, so Great Granny wasn't getting ahead of herself. However, you might know the name Anthea; it is derived from anthos (flower in Greek) and an anthemion is a little flower. Usually used for those carved decorations on the tops of pillars and columns that look like bunches of leaves. Take your pick.
