Possibly a modified form of Ermelinda? Ermeline would make sense as a French form, and your parents or someone else (if you were named after someone) might have added the "D". It corresponds with the meaning, too: Ermelinda is "Derived from the Germanic elements ermen "whole, universal" and linde "soft, tender"."~ Caitlín
