If I remember correctly, the name became popular in the beginning of the 20th century, when the trend was borrowing names from literary sources. It is believed that Anelia was inspired by Sienkiewicz's novels, and modeled after either Anelja (a Polish pet form of Anna) or Aniela - the Polish form of Angela. So, voila! It's not such a far-fetched connection.
