Unique name HELP!!!!!
I'm in love with the name Ella, but does it sound to much like an elephant's name, or did you not realize that until i said that? I really do love the name Ella, but no child of mine will have the nickname, "Ella the Elephant." When I think of the name, a picture of elegance comes to mind. Like for instance, CinderELLA. If you disagree, please let me know. This is a large dilemna for me.

Ella is a very popular name in Germany. I plan on naming my daughter Ella or a form of the name (Anabella, Isabella, Estella, Marcella, Maricella, Gabriella, Daniella, Donella, Amabella etc.) My great grandmothers' name was Ella and she was very beautiful, so that is why I fancy the name so much.

When I hear Ella I always think of the book Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. The protagonist, Ella, is fantastic. I love the name Ella.

I have read that book as well. I write children's books. That WAS an amazing book, and actually, where I came up with the name

I never even thought of Ella as an elephant's name! I think Ella is really nice. Go ahead, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Ella the Elephant" never came to mind, nor has "Cinderella" come to mind when I hear the name Ella. Come to think of it, nothing out of the ordinary comes to my mind when I hear the name Ella.

Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled off to the jungle;
Off she went with a trumpetty-trump,
Trump, trump, trump.
The Head of the Herd was calling
From far, far away,
They meet by night
"Neath the pale moonlight
On the Road to Mandalay -
So -
Nellie the Elephant ... etc.Gee, thanks - now I'll be humming it all day!Having relived the past, I must say that to me, Ella says Cinders. Name her Eleanor or Elizabeth and use it as a nickname.

"Ella the Elephant" has never occurred to me, although the name always brings Ella Fitzgerald to mind. The name might have some unfortunate fallout though if your child was unlucky enough to have a weight problem.

AHA! Another classic jazz connosieur. :)She was great, wasn't she? I used to have a tape that had Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne and Sarah Vaughn (or was it Vaughan?.)Anyway, kids (and "adults") will find anything and everything to tease a child about. Pav, Dav, remember the fallout between Elaine and Nanaea? :still chuckling about that:Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

Ah, Ella Fitzgerald sang "summertime" better than anyone I ever could :)
The Elaine incident was a true classic, even though I feel EagleBeak2 -- remember, the fellow with a mission to defend the posthumous honor of his unsightly beloved Russian Emperess -- was an even funnier loonie!!!

Yeah. :)Sometimes I wish Nanaea was still here. She could keep people on-topic better than anybody else on the board (except Mike C. when he has the time to edit.)Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

Alas, both Elaine and Eaglebeak2 were before my time, or perhaps I should be thankful. Ella Fitzgerald though...ah, do I ever remember her "Summertime"..
